Launching a Website

Postby Pingus » Fri Jun 22, 2007 11:31 am

I don't know exactly where to put this but I am hoping to launch a website soon. The website will be about free/opensource software and of course will have a Linux section. The problem is that I can't do it on my own and I would like if some people would get involved.
If you are interested then give me a PM, if you want some more information then post here.

I don't want to puncture your bubble, but unless you have found out something completely new then it is unlikely that you can add to the already oversubscribed webspace on free/opensource software.

You would do better looking for a site that you could help with like the wiki here or something similar on your local LUG

I'll help, but my rates are expensive.

That makes 2 of us ;)

Let's see:
# Genuine Error (c) questions are rated at 50 GBP each
# Interesting questions earn me another 75 GBP each
# Dumb questions do 125 GBP a piece
# Annying questions will cost you 180 GBP for every single one
# RTFM questions do 5000 Pound Sterling for every answer or part thereof
# Repetitive questions are charged triple at minimum, with no maximum, depending on the number of times you've asked them before, my mood and the position of Mars vs Venus ;)
# Questions who fall in more then one of the above mentioned categories are charged for all categories it applies for, with a fixed rate of GBP 1,000 for each category, excluding the repetitive category which will be charged at 25.000 GBP.

Or post your questions here or at the LinuxQuestions.org forum, where they'll be answered for free.... :P One more thing, look here: http://www.userfriendly.org/

You ever notice how you find every character from dilbert in your office no matter where you work? I thought I was like Dogbert to start, but I have just realised I'm more like a Dilbert character.

As it turns out I might be able to manage on my own but I am a newbie to web development so I would appreciate some help. When I buy a domain name how do I get it to go to my homepage? How do domain names work? I am really clueless about this!

I think you'll find that the best advice from anyone here is RTFM :P
