network password problem

Postby m0bzk » Sun Aug 15, 2010 6:50 pm

HI, I run at home a small network, I have 2 laptops and a server running Ubuntu 10.04, my wife a daughter have laptops running windows vista. The problem I am getting is that I can see all machines on my Ubuntu pc's, and send files to the Ubuntu machines, but when I try to connect to the window machines I am asked for a user name and password, none have been set up, but I can see the Ubuntu machines from the windows one's and can send files across the network that way but not from the Ubuntu machines. has any one any idea what I am doing wrong or is there something I have forgotten to set up somewhere.

grateful in advance dave

See here -
http://opensuse.swerdna.org/susesambavista.html
(it's not just for openSUSE)

and make sure password protected sharing is disabled in Vista
