Head First Java by O'Reilly, perhaps. Not the usual text heavy tome, a light-hearted and (dareIsayit) fun approach to learning. :)

Yeah that's the fella. :)

I started to dabble in Java a few years ago when my wife's boss (an engineering academic) threatened to throw out a load of (mint condition) computer books unless he could find a good home for them. Over several days she brought home the programming tomes (they are heavy) most of which I still have, the C++ ones have been rehomed tho. But this was the book I really wanted and, even tho I had to buy it, it's my fave. :)
