The main change since then is that Apple has a portfolio and is no longer reliant on a single product in a variety of configurations.

But they still rely on getting the "closed but shiny" bit right. Who can do that like Jobs can?

You are forgetting the "sue the arse off anyone who dares to compete" bit.

Rumour has it that Steve Jobs actually intended to tweet "I reign as CEO of Apple," but he was having trouble typing on his iPad and caught the s after the e.

Whatever, a nice take on this in today's Newsbiscuit:

Cook vows to improve Apple turnover.

Blatantly copied from Sickipedia, but it tickled me ;)

I see the Anti-Apple fightback continues. After Google bought up Motorola Mobility, allegedly for the bundled patents, it now looks like Samsung are looking to buy WebOS from HP, allegedly for the bundle of Palm originated patents that will come bundled with it.

If Samsung do get their mits on a bunch of Palm patents, Apple are likely to have to forget its anti-Samsung belligerency lest Samsung start asking for injunctions against iPads and iPhones for "slavishly" copying Palm Pilots.
