The Wikipedia entry for Elite does mention that the game did differ from platform to platform, but there is no mention of changes in difficulty, just things like fewer ships and the like.

The Frontier Wiki did mention that some accused the game of being boring, and quite slow compared to Elite, so maybe that's it? Perhaps in Elite you can expect to get a bit of a kicking. Never played Elite, just Frontier, so I have no actual experience on it.

Interesting. In Frontier you rarely got attacked by multiple ships at the same time, unless you were messing around with the police or doing photo/nuclear bomb missions. It was quite cool to be dogfighting with three pirates in Elite. I just wish that only happened in anarchic systems, instead of supposedly comfortable trade routes!

I've been playing Oolite (http://www.oolite.org) recently as it is more up to date version of Elite. As far as I remember from the C64 and Atari versions it's pretty accurate; although they have made docking a bit easier.

Now if only someone would do the same for Frontier, I'd never leave the house again -_-

Oops! I've corrected the link, thanks.

The version in the repos, certainly for LMDE, is quite old and it has come on a long way.

[edit]Just checked the Mint 11 repos and it's still the older version[/edit]

Just installed it from the repos and it wont run.

Latest version from the site works and I can also use a xbox360 controller.
